The M6 metrics tracks the health of three set of registries maintained by IANA: the Domain Name System (DNS) Parameters, the Domain Name System Security (DNSSEC) Algorithm Numbers, and the DNS-Based Authentication of Named Entities (DANE) Parameters. Each of these groups includes different parameter sets. We will track the health of each of these parameters by a set of metrics of the form “M6.N.X.*”, where “M6.N.X” is the metric index composed of the registry name “N” and the parameter set index “X”. The following tables present the value of the metrics M6.N.X.1 and M6.N.X.2:

- The metrics M6.N.X.1 tracks "usage" as the ratio of the number of parameters found at least once in real traffic, divided by the total number of parameters found registered in the table.
- The metrics M6.X.N.2 tracks "squatting" as the ratio of the total number of instances of unregistered parameters (squat) found in real traffic, divided by the total number of parameter instances found in real traffic.

In the following table, the *current value* is the
value of the usage metric for the current month.
The *average value* is the average value of that metric
over the 12 months preceeding this one -- or the average since the beginning
of measurements if measurements started fewer than 12 months ago.

The metrics M6.X.N.3 track the occurences in live traffic of specific values defined
in the registries. In the following tables, we present for each registry the relative
frequency of each parameter.
The *average value* is the average value of that parameter's frequency
over the 12 months preceeding this one -- or the average since the beginning
of measurements if measurements started fewer than 12 months ago.
